John (China, Age 14): English 282

In 2000 I born in a hospital of Fuzhou.When I grew up. My Grandparent gave me a name “John”.

When I was 6 years old. My grandparent send me to an elementary school. When you into my school front door you will saw a huge sculpture represent “learn” the back of the sculpture is the teachers office building.Near left side is the building is a old gallery and a teaching building. Near the right side of the building  is a other teaching building and playground.At the back of office building is a place for student to play.If you ask me where is the place in school you like most I gota tell you is the two huge tree. My school has two huge trees one is in the middle of school. Other one is at backdoor.   During lunch time,I usually walked under the tree at backdoor.The place is very peaceful.I can had enough time to rest. Other place is very noise. I can not focus to rest. In school the lunch is taste like the food is mildew. So I eat as fast as possible. Then I am run to the tree. Under the tree the air is much better than in playground. You can smell the flower and grass. When you touch the tree you can feeling the age of that tree is very old. During the 1 and 2 grade I did not like talk to other students because I like working alonely. So the teacher did not like me when they ask question during the free time I did not care them. They think I am silly. But I am not silly just lazy. The time is pass in 3 grade the teacher has been change. A old teacher to teach our class. During this time our class mean grade was increase. She telled to me I need find a partner to help his grade . So I find low grade classmate. Then we became friend. His name is Jeff. We always walked in school and under the tree.According to our conversation I can know he is smart but he is lazy. So I dont need lot time to teach him. When we in 5 grade the teacher has been change. A new teacher just graduated from college then became a teacher.  She is nice to us. In lunch time only I and Jeff stay in school so she let us came to tutoring for free and helped her to finish some work.  When we in 6 grade the new teacher stay in 5 grade.We get a old teacher for 6 grade. Then she asked student to tutoring but has pay money for that. So we did not want went to the tutoring. But she tell our parent my grandparent let me to do that. In tutoring we had about 20 student in lunch time. Also it include the free time and Siesta. It made me not well.

The ancient times China,people survive by the agricultural production. So

the feasts is basic on the weather,also the time is basic in weather. Each time ancient times China changed dynasty  the Emperor came knew the importance of control the agricultural production.Because the ancient times China did not have local religions, so the Chinese culture is basic in  famous people  and weather. For example the Taoism is basic on Tao Tzu. Confucianism also basic in Confucius. this two “religions” is two major group in  ancient times China. That situation is call “Contending”. After this confusion .The most important holiday is Chinese New Year. Because this is the first day of this year or last day of last year. During this time every family ate a big dinner. The parent will gave their Child/Children pocket money. My grandparent will go to fair every year at night (3 clock). They went to pray for us can auspicious during this year. At night we play firework the sky dye colorful by firework. At street the sound was very loud. In 12 clock the sound is most loud time in New Year people are celebrate for the New Year. They were played the firework. The sound just like the machine gun are firing. The street smell like the battlefield during late Middle Age. That is all smell of gunpowder. The TV show are end in this time. This is means that the New year was came. During after one week  we are going to meet our relative. This is one part in our culture. Also is the important part of our culture. Because we were importance to the relationship of relative. During New Year time we usually eat two food “New Year cake” and “Dumplings”. this two food had the special means. The “New Year cake” means every year is better than last year. The dumpling means reunion. This two things is most people hope in New Year.

When I in 6 grade my mother call us came to USA. But my Grandparent Did not want us came to USA. Because they worry about me. They worry about the life in America is hard. My grandfather is the  “leader” in my family. He looks young and strong. My grandpa says: “ The America is chaos.” They made a mood let me fear the USA. The other reason they did not want me came to America was my parent did not like each other. They worry we will separate from each. But they also wanted let me live with my parent because the normal child is live with their parent. So they agree let me came to the US. When I came to NYC the things are new for us. Just like the new world. After 1 week my mother let me went to middle school(I.S 220).

In I.S 220 I have lot friend. We had a happy time during this two years. In IS 220, because we are in bilingual class. So our teacher is Chinese. But the teach way and the idea is different from the Chinese school. So during this time I learn many different things to China. Also in I.S 220 I learn use the different ways to look a question. So I can learn fast. Because the different look ways can easy to know what is the question talking about. During 7 and 8 grade teacher taught us some famous book<<Jane Eyre>> ,<<the outsider>>, <<Yellow Fever 1793>>,<<Night>> and <<the Great Gatsby>>. I learn many many things in those books. In those book all have a same idea: “People after hone can become independent, mature,and seasoned.But if you can not pass the tribulations you will eliminate by human society. In <<Jane Eyre>> I learn the people must self-reliant. Jane Eyre was a poor Girl. Her aunts family rely the Jane Eyres uncle powerful and rich to bully Jane Eyre after the Jane Eyres uncle die.  And she let Jane Eyre go to a church school. That school was very bad the food is mildew the principal was lier. During a winter the plague attacked this school. Her best friend die. In her life she self-reliant get a good job. And she get a huge heritage (£20000). This a big number during Victorian.  But she only get £5000. Then she give £15000 to her Cousins. St.John and his sister. Then Jane Eyre marry to Mr.Rochester. In <<the Outsider>> I learn a life is not only in include white(right) and black(error) is a colorful life. Also I learn using different ways to look  things. In<<Yellow Fever 1793>>the Marty during the yellow fever her grandfather was die, her mother was missing. She get the yellow fever.Before the yellow fever she is a child. after the yellow fever she became mature. This story shows us adversity made a person became mature. The <<Night>> is a book was full of betrayal, the ugly of humanity, the tremendous power of survive, the human nature and moral critique.I learn most knowledge is became for this book. But I do not want read that second time.<<Night>> talk about the story of during world war two the under the non-human life of Jewish who are in the Nazi German concentration camps had huge change of human nature and moral. Elie Sewell was a child born in a Jewish family.He studied in a field next to the pastor teach. Suddenly one day all foreign Jews were taken away by the Germans.A few days later he ran back to tell the people about the German want to slaughter they.But all the people do not believe him.Until the advent of tragedy.All were sent to concentration camps in the dual destroy the body and soul. Moral of person no longer exists.Son kills father for a piece of bread.People kill each other in order to get a food. Human become a beast.Those who want to resist and the weak are either hanged or electrocuted, or become ghosts fellow their friend, or become a ghost under the German guns, or become incinerator ash.Shrouded in death camps. Elie at his mother and sister were killed, died of companion and witnessed of his father's death to experience the despair and fear. Are from the Germans, but from the other survivors.Until the Soviet Red Army liberated them.Has been repeatedly hit while supporting his belief that was survival.because survival so he can still live.Also because survive he saw the tragedy again and again.His will by destroy again and again.This book shows me a new world.All things by reverse.The people were try to survival also taking away the right of other people survival. The People who give up survival are foolish but very noble.And shattered moral hypocrisy on human nature in this book is well demonstrated.But human society has been improve in the development of these things,Irreproachable and no alternative.The things were happen it will happen again,the things been did.It will be do in furture . In <<the Great Gatsby>> I learn the hope is very strange thing it is close to you.If you extend your hand you can touch it. But it is far away to you. You can not  catch that. Also I learn if you want success no matter how you hard work is how you think and inherent advantages. The Gatsby was very hard work. He from a poor boy became a rich man he is a hard work man.But still he loss because Buchanans clan is better than Gatsby.The inherent advantages wins the hard work.Those things let I learned the human potential is excite by adversity and if you can not pass the adversity time you will by eliminate the will of survive is hute. Also if you can get other people help you can easy to live. This is the important things during my middle school life.

When I Graduated from middle school. I came to IHSL with my classmate. In IHSL I also get some new friend. I also learned many in this time. When I read <<Count of Monte Cristo>>. I can recall to  <<the Great Gatsby>>. Because is two book all shows the humans ugly. I want learn more things in the after 3 years in IHSL.
